Kreator to rock KL
(15 August 2005, The Star Online)

Kreator in Kuala Lumpur reads like the rock event of the year. Add hometown thrashers Cromok in the support slot and there is no doubt that the monstrous scale of this gig is set to outstrip Napalm Death’s show here back in 2001. The legendary German outfit is set to play at Backroom, Lengkok Raja Chulan, off Jalan Ipoh, on Sept 25.

Presented by Psychic Scream/Music Garage, the Kreator concert – billed as Aggression KL – sees the long-standing band arriving in town in fighting form despite the years. Formed in 1982 in the industrial German town of Essen, the quartet, led by main man Mille Petrozza, trail-blazed a massively influential career in the 1980s, anchored by albums like Pleasure To Kill and Extreme Aggression.

Revered as one of Germany’s foremost thrash metal outfits and also regarded as the Sepultura of Europe, Kreator came with huge credentials but the band hit the career skids in the last decade with albums that failed to ignite. Yet this outfit, thriving on grit, has returned from the brink of obscurity with the well-received recent albums Violent Revolution (2001) and Enemy of God (2004).

After three decades of extreme noisemaking, the rebirth of Kreator has given homegrown thrash metal fans a reason to stand proud once again. Get those black T-shirts and ripped jeans out. Admit it, there is nothing like an underground metal show to spark raw excitement.
